Red Bear Angels portfolio company Harbinger Motors has announced a strategic partnership with American Rheinmetall — the U.S. hub of German defense supplier Rheinmetall — to develop and deliver autonomous robotics and uncrewed ground vehicles for the U.S. Department of Defense.
The collaboration will combine Harbinger's autonomous-ready hybrid vehicle platform with American Rheinmetall's expertise in combat vehicle integration and mission systems. Together, the partners aim to create affordable, scalable robotic solutions for the battlefield — leveraging Harbinger's commercial EV chassis as a dual-use platform for both logistics and defense applications.
Partnering with American Rheinmetall, one of the most capable ground systems integrators serving the Department of War, allows us to bring our autonomous-ready platform at a price point that makes true attritable mass possible, said Harbinger CEO John Harris. The announcement builds on a strong 2026 for Harbinger, which recently secured a $140 million California Competes Tax Credit to establish a battery manufacturing facility in Orange County, creating 343 new jobs.
